An introduction to the application and future use of Th in aquatic systems

چکیده
Th is an extremely useful radiotracer of particle dynamics in aquatic systems. Its utility, however, has yet to be realized by many within the aquatic science community. The reasons for this may in part be due to a lack of knowledge of how this nuclide has been used in the past as well as how and where Th might be profitably applied in future research. The purpose of this paper, then, is to examine the variety of Th applications that have been used to understand natural aquatic processes in four major areas: vertical transport, particle cycling, horizontal transport, and sediment dynamics. We provide a general overview of the possible applications of Th in the hopes of provoking an increased interest in the inherent potential and future application of Th in these systems. We end this paper with a discussion of future research avenues in the context of three specific regimes: (i) the upper 1000 m of the open ocean, (ii) coastal sediment/water processes and (iii) large freshwater lakes. Investigation of antimicrobial properties of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to control diseases and health management in aquaculture systems
Today, the role of aquaculture in food production, economic development and food security is well known, but this industry still faces many challenges, including the prevalence of pathogens in farming systems. So far, various chemical, physical and biological methods have been used to control and prevent the spread of pathogens in farming environments, some of which are unfortunately not widely...
متن کاملTh sorption and export models in the water column: A review
Over the past few decades, the radioisotope pair of U /Th has been widely and increasingly used to describe particle dynamics and particle export fluxes in a variety of aquatic systems. The present paper is one of five review articles dedicated to Th. It is focused on the models associated with Th whereas the companion papers (same issue) are focused on present and future methodologies and tech...
متن کاملIntroduction of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) and an overview on its role in aquatics nutrition
One of the challenges facing the increasing growth of the aquaculture industry in the last decade is paying attention to the production of economical aquafeeds. Fishmeal as a source of protein required by aquatic species faces problems such as price increment, quality fluctuation and the presence of various chemical and microbial contaminants. Therefore, attention to the use of alternative prot...
متن کاملIntroduction to Schramm-Loewner evolution and its application to critical systems
In this short review we look at recent advances in Schramm-Loewner Evolution (SLE) theory and its application to critical phenomena. The application of SLE goes beyond critical systems to other time dependent, scale invariant phenomena such as turbulence, sand-piles and watersheds. Through the use of SLE, the evolution of conformally invariant paths on the complex plane can be followed; hence a...
متن کاملApplication of single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) as a molecular marker in the study of genetic diversity of aquatic populations
Genetic diversity is one of the important and essential characteristics of any population for its survival. The study of genetic variation in different populations of aquatic organisms is of particular importance in order to protect, stabilize and manage their stocks. Based on studies conducted in recent years, molecular markers have proven that they can be used as indicators of the genetic div...
